The 13th Annual QuakeFor Immediate Release: January 3, 2007 The Center for Service Learning at Wilmington College is pleased to announce that the 13th Annual Quake, “Service Rocks” will take place on April 28th, 2007. The Quake began as a student and staff initiated project in the spring of 1994. The goal of the Quake is to provide an “earthquake of service” throughout Clinton County. Thus, the Quake has become an annual event for the College. In order to have a successful event we are in need of two things: “tremor sites” and volunteers! A “tremor site” is any community organization that has a need and would be willing to provide a service project on the day of the Quake. In the past we participated in painting projects, landscaping, planting trees, general cleaning, washing fire trucks and police cars, etc. The tremor site is responsible for providing all materials, tools and directions for how the project is to be carried out as well as supervision at your site. In the past, members of tremor site agencies have encouraged participation among their employees as well. While this is not required, it is always a wonderful opportunity for students to meet and talk with community members. The second crucial thing for a successful event is willing volunteers. Students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to participate. Interested volunteers will need to pre-register for the event by stopping by the registration table during lunch and dinner in Pyle Center the Week of April 23rd or by calling the Center for Service Learning. Each volunteer receives a continental breakfast, lunch and a t-shirt for their willingness to serve. We are excited about this year’s event and hope that through your participation we will build new relationships, meet various needs in the community and raise the visibility of volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in becoming a “tremor site” please fill out a registration form and return it to the Center for Service Learning at tlydy@wilmington.edu or call (937) 382-6661, ext.261 by Friday, April 13th, to reserve your project. If you have any questions please feel free to call either of us at the above number or fax us at (937) 383-8560. We hope you will consider participating in this awesome event and we look forward to hearing from you.
