Chalk 4 Peace

Students, Staff and Faculty participate in Chalk 4 Peace event in honor of the International Day of Peace on September 21, 2009. The event invites people to draw and write with chalk what peace means to them. The Peace Resource Center hosted the event on the Wilmington College main campus. In addition to Wilmington College, over 200,000 artists participated at hundreds of sites across four continents. The International Day of Peace is dedicated to peace, or specifically the absence of war, such as might be occasioned by a temporary cease fire in a combat zone. It is observed by many nations, political groups, military groups, and peoples.

Japanese Peace Ambassadors Exchange

The Japanese Peace Ambassador Exchange Team (PAX) visited Wilmington, Ohio on September 13-15, 2009. The Team was hosted by the Peace Resource Center and consisted of two Japanese college students and two older adults. They gave presentations on the Wilmington College campus and at the Wilmington High School. The team focused on educating people about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and emphasized that nuclear weapons should not be used by any country ever again. In addition to education, PAX also works to build bridges of friendship between Japan and the United States by cultural exchange. Each team member shared their unique talents. In addition to Wilmington, Ohio the team stopped at Washington, D.C., Chicago, Illinois and Portland, Oregon.
