Bill Linbacher (left) presents the new United Nations flag to a delegation of Wilmington College officials, including, from the left, Mark Denniston, vice president for enrollment management, Jim Boland, director of the Peace Resource Center; and President Dan DiBiaiso.
Wilmington resident Bill Linbacher presented Wilmington College President Dan DiBiasio with a United Nations flag to replace the weather-worn banner located at the northwest corner of Hermann Court.
Linbacher, who has volunteered at WC's Watson Library and the Peace Resource Center, notes that, for more than 30 years, the U.N. flag has flown at the College as a "public affirmation of peace, human dignity and fundamental values" held in common by the Quaker college and the United Nations.
He said the presence of the flag on campus has offered "quite inspiration" to him and others for many years.
The new flag will be installed prior to this year's Westheimer Peace Symposium, which is Wednesday (Oct. 21).
