AUSTINTOWN — Seniors Josh Ward and Tyler Scheid have been named to the At-Large Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Team.

The academic award winners are selected by OAC faculty representatives. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least his second year of participation in the sport.

“Traditionally, we’ve had a lot of success academically,” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said. “I think that says a lot about the students individually, and it says something, too, about the tradition of the program and the legacy that the seniors leave this year. Josh and Tyler were incredible student-athletes.”

Ward (Sidney) recently graduated with a 3.81 GPA as an agriculture major. He was an Academic All-OAC pick in 2010 and an honorable mention selection in 2009. In the water he is a member of the school record-holding 400 medley relay team.

Scheid (Loveland/Milford) recently graduated with a 3.81 GPA as a sport management major. The academic league award is his first.

“Swimming is a sport that demands time management. We have both morning and afternoon workouts a lot of days,” Breen said. “It’s not just a schedule — it’s the fatigue and the need to find balance to your life. We talk a lot about finding that balance, and obviously this group has done it pretty well.”
