Jordan VanWinkle and the Quakers lost at Mount Union.
ALLIANCE — With play chased indoors by inclement weather, Wilmington dropped a 9-0 decision to Mount Union in Ohio Athletic Conference women’s tennis action Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Quakers to 1-1 in the OAC, 2-4 overall. Mount Union improves to 2-0 in the conference, 5-4 for the season.
“Mount Union is as good a team as we have seen. They are solid at every position,” Wilmington interim head coach Jessie Carmack said. “I did see continued improvement from our players.”
The Raiders opened play by sweeping doubles competition. Jennifer VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) and Jordan VanWinkle (Vickery/Port Clinton) battled Carolann Sterkenburg and Julie Amabeli at No. 3 doubles before falling, 3-8.
In singles action, Erin Cane (Springboro) dropped a hard-fought 3-6, 3-6 decision to Megan Czuchra at the No. 2 position.
At No. 3 singles, Michelle Reiber (Jamestown/Greeneview) was edged by Courtney Adamsky, 2-6, 4-6.
“We did some very good things against very good competition,” Carmack said. “We need to continue to work on our consistency — that’s our biggest problem right now. We will continue that work and look forward to our match with Heidelberg next Saturday.”
