Wingen to take post in July

Corey Wingen is the new head athletic trainer at Wilmington College.
Wilmington College has selected Corey J. Wingen as its new head athletic trainer effective July 1.
Wingen will serve the College’s student-athletes in 21 intercollegiate sports in this non-teaching position.
Since last summer, he has been the head athletic trainer at Bethany College, Bethany, W.Va., where he has had oversight for 21 varsity sports and direct sport coverage for football, volleyball, men’s basketball and baseball. He came to Bethany in 2009 as an assistant athletic trainer.
Wingen is a Certified Athletic Trainer that earned a bachelor of science in athletic training degree from Ohio Northern University in 2007 and a master of science in athletic training from the University of Kentucky in in 2009. He was a training camp intern with the Detroit Lions while at ONU.
Larry Howard, WC’s athletic training program director, said Wingen was the “consensus top candidate” of the search committee.
Corey is young and will bring a lot of energy to the position,” he said. “We believe he will take the AT service area for our students to the next level.”
Howard said the committee was impressed with Wingen’s quick rise to head trainer at Bethany, which is a college similar in many ways to WC, as it is a small school with 21 intercollegiate sports in NCAA Division III. However, Bethany does not have an academic program in athletic training.
