Wilmington College lost to defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Ohio Northern in a dual at the WC Natatorium Friday night.

“We came out and raced much better against them this year than we did last year,” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said. “I think our team has been training well and taking confidence from that training. We still have to do a lot of things better, but hopefully we will learn from our mistakes.”

Freshman Addie Roberts (Franklin) continued to shine with a win in the 400-meter freestyle and a second-place finish in the 800 free.

“Addie does a lot of things really well. We spent a lot of time this week working on turns. She really focused on turns and learning about the corrections that she needed to make, and she did all those things.”

Victoria Burcham (Urbana) touched first in the 50 backstroke and was third in the 100 backstroke.

“Victoria had a great meet. She was about 1 second faster in the 100 this week than last week. That was exciting,” Breen said.

Julie Creech (Dayton/Centerville) won the 50 butterfly and touched second in the 100 fly.

Breen also singled out the distance freestyle performances turned in by Katie Mozingo (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) and Shelby Zornes (Milan, Ind.)

“We were looking for people to step up early and race, and they really did so. That is a grueling race, and instead of sitting back and waiting for the end, they both took it to the kids that they were racing.”
