The Wilmington College baseball team was swept in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday by John Carroll at Tewksbury-Delaney Field. After suffering a heartbreaking 5-3 defeat in the opener, the Quakers were overwhelmed, 20-0, in the nightcap.

Junior Brandon Arehart (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) snapped a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-out single, scoring freshman Alec Hutzelman (Centerville, OH/Centerville) from second. However, John Carroll plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the lead, and the victory.

Wilmington took the early lead with two runs in the third inning. Freshman Max Ramsey (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) had an RBI single, and another run on a double play. The Blue Streaks knotted the game with two runs in the fifth.

Freshman Bryce Bean (Lees Creek, OH/East Clinton) was 2-for-2 with a run scored as Wilmington recorded seven hits in the opener.

Senior Hunter Justus (Circleville, OH/Logan Elm) fell to 1-5 on the season, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits in six innings of work.

John Carroll scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings en route to posting the victory in the second game.

Wilmington managed just six hits in the game in falling to 4-19 overall, 1-5 in the OAC. The Fightin’ Quakers return to action 1 p.m. Wednesday with an OAC doubleheader at Otterbein.

Arehart was responsible for two of WC’s six hits, going 2-for-2 on the day.

Freshman Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) fell to 1-5 on the year, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits in two innings of work.
