Springfield Friends Meeting Bicentennial Celebration, September 19 & 20, 2009

Please help us celebrate 200 years of Quaker history and service in our community, and help us look forward to our future as we remember our past.

Saturday, September 19

Springfield Friends Meeting
121 Todds Fork Road (Near Rt. 380 and Todds Fork)
Wilmington, Ohio

10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Displays of Eli Harvey bronzes, antique clothing, tools, photographs, and items of local interest
Sales tents for books, notecards, magnets, ornaments, and other items
Food tents provided by Sams Meats & Deli and Jen's Downtown Deli
Horse drawn wagon rides through the cemetery

10:30 a.m. - Guided Old Cemetery Walk - Meet Mary Ellen Krisher on the west side of the Meetinghouse.  Handouts for self-guided tours will be available all day.  Many historic graves are marked with signs.

11:30 a.m. - Meetinghouse Talk on Quaker Clothing Styles - Kay Fisher, Director, Clinton County Historical Society.  Examples from the collection will be on display.

12:30 to 6:30 p.m. - Live Music in the meetinghouse by local musicians

2 to 5 p.m. - Quaker History Tour - Board the bus for a tour around the community and to Harveysburg and Waynesville.  Donations accepted to help cover fuel and driver costs.

7 p.m. - "Led by the Spirit" - Dramatization based upon the journey of Springfield Meeting members Isaac and Sarah Harvey to speak to President Lincoln in 1862.

8 p.m. - "Images of Our Quaker Past and Present"

Sunday, September 20

Springfield Friends Meeting

9:30 a.m. - Sunday School

10:40 a.m. - Meeting for worship with Mike and Nancy McCormick, pastors.  Former pastors are invited to share memories.

12 noon - Carry-in dinner under the tent.  Drinks and table service provided.  Bring a favorite dish to share.

2 p.m. - Special visit to the exhibit "A House Divided: Lincoln, Quakers, and the Civil War" with Ruth Dobyns, Curator, Quaker Heritage Center

3 p.m. - Dedication Program of the sculpture "Who Sends Thee?" in the T. Canby Jones Meetinghouse.  Comments by the artist, Wilmington College President Dan DiBiasio, and others.

3:30 p.m. - Unveiling of the "Who Sends Thee?" sculpture, followed by a donor reception hosted by President DiBiasio
