AUSTINTOWN — Wilmington College junior first baseman Holly Sheets has been named to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Team, the league office announced today. Sheets was an honorable mention pick.

The academic award winners are selected by OAC faculty representatives. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport.

“Holly is the true definition of student-athlete,” Wilmington head coach Beth Floyd said. “She takes her class work and her softball very, very seriously. She prides herself in doing the very best that she can. She isn’t satisfied with not doing her best.”

Sheets (Richwood/North Union) maintains a 3.82 GPA as an art education major. She also was an Honorable Mention Academic All-OAC selection in 2010. On the diamond this spring she was third on the Wilmington squad with 13 RBIs and second with 15 runs scored.

“Academics is very important — that’s why we are here,” Floyd said. “Kids are here to get an education. Our team’s number one priority is for them to do the very best that they can in the classroom.”
