Rupert voted to NCAA post

WC athletic director to vice chair management council

July 28, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS — Wilmington College Director of Athletics/Vice President for Athletics Administration Terry Rupert has been elected as the vice chair of the NCAA Division III Management Council for the 2012 term, the NCAA announced today.

Rupert has been the director of athletics at Wilmington College since 1996 and was named the College’s vice president for athletics administration in 2008.

“This is a great honor for me and for Wilmington College. Being involved with the NCAA at this level provides me the opportunity to gain valuable insight from across the nation,” Rupert said.

Rupert has been instrumental in the growth of Wilmington’s athletics department and facilities — growth that includes the addition of swimming and women’s golf teams to WC’s varsity lineup. Under his guidance, new turf and lighting were added to Williams Stadium in 2008 — part of a “town and gown” agreement with Wilmington City Schools to illuminate football, soccer, lacrosse and track and field events.

A longtime administrator and coach, Rupert received both his undergraduate degree in physical education and health education, and a Master of Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He earned his Doctor of Education from University of Southern Mississippi.

Rupert also has emerged as a leader on the national level. From 2008-2009 he was chairman of the NCAA Division III Interpretations and Legislation Committee. He currently serves on the Financial Aid Committee and the Subcommittee for Legislative Relief. He also is a facilitator for the NCAA Careers In Sports Forum.
