DELAWARE — Freshman Tabitha Biegler brought her A-game to work Wednesday night to help lead Wilmington College to a 3-1 win over Ohio Wesleyan.
The Quakers are now 5-5 on the season while the Bishops fall to 1-9.
“We had to get over the van ride,” Wilmington head coach Ron Mullikin said. “We were really flat the first game, but played really well the next two.”
Wilmington played from behind early, thanks to a 25-19 setback in set one. Things turned around, though, as the Quakers pounded OWU in the next two sets, 25-10, 25-16.
The fourth set was the tightest of the night. The Bishops built an early lead, but Wilmington rallied to seal the match with a 25-23 win.
Biegler (Columbus/Briggs) was a machine at keeping points alive with 12 digs and finishing points with match-high 14 kills.
“Tabitha had a beautiful match,” Mullikin said. “She kept us in so many points with her digs and had some hammers at the net. She is really scrappy, a great freshman.”
Anne Keenan (Beavercreek) added 11 kills, including three straight to finish the match. Ashley Miller (Arcanum/Franklin Monroe) and Sara Fisher (London/Madison-Plains) added eight and seven kills, respectively.
Amy McClelland (Xenia) set the table with match-high 38 assists.
“I really liked our movement,” Mullikin said. “When you move well, all parts of your game improve. We were in position to hit, pass, dig and block.”
