LIMA — Led by all-conference performances by Annie Cekada and Jenna Parlette, the Wilmington College women ran to a third-place finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship at Lost Creek Golf Course Saturday morning.

The Quakers finished with 102 team points. Ohio Northern captured the team title with 35 points.

The third-place team finish was Wilmington’s best in the OAC since a third-place finish in 2000.

“That was our first year in the conference, but the conference wasn’t nearly as good then as it is now,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “This team has had a great season. I think a lot of people expected us to drop off a little bit, with some of the kids that we lost, but I felt from the start that we were a much better team this year. It was a good run today, but I don’t think it was our best run. I keep saying that each week, but I think we can be a lot stronger than we were today.”

Cekada (Mineral Point, Pa./Central Cambria) covered the 6k course in 22:42 to finish third overall and earn her third First Team All-OAC honor.

“This was Annie’s best finish ever in the OAC meet, and she was a couple steps from second place,” Combs said. “It’s been an up and down year, but she is a mentally tough kid. I wouldn’t have expected to come here and see anything different from her. She is always going to put it out there for the team.”

Parlette (Miamisburg) finished 10th overall in 23:06 to pick up a Second Team All-OAC honor.

Brittany Gibbons (Pleasant Plain/Blanchester) finished 20th in 23:32.

“Jenna has had an amazing freshman season. To get second team all-conference is a great accomplishment. She has been rock-solid all season. Brittany has gone through an incredible transformation in the last year. And I think Tricia Steffen is going to join that group next year,” Combs said.

Steffen (Baltimore/Liberty Union) was 30th overall, finishing in 24:05.

Karlee Michel (Alexandria/Johnstown-Monroe) finished 45th in 24:41.

The Quakers will compete in the Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Oberlin College, Nov. 12.
