BEXLEY — Wilmington College won four events as the Quakers opened the indoor track and field season at the Capital Purple and White Invitational on Saturday.
Brandon Bruner (Cincinnati/Shroder) won two event titles. The sophomore won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.28 and took the long jump with a best effort of 22-0.75. Bruner also finished third in the triple jump with an effort of 40-11.
Braden McMonigle (Monroe/Lemon-Monroe) started the season with a win in the high jump, clearing the bar at a meet-best 6-7.50. The effort was an NCAA provisional mark.
Mason Metts (Pomeroy/Meigs) was the top collegiate competitor in the shot put with a toss of 47-1.75.
Josh Richardson (Hamilton/North College Hill) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles.
“This meet is a great way to evaluate where we are right now,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “Those are good results. We had some nerves that caught up with us a little bit, but it was a strong performance out of the gate.”
Wilmington’s Brad Kline (Circleville) competed in the mile run at Kent State University’s Golden Flash Gala and narrowly missed the school record with a 4:29.86 in his collegiate debut in the mile.
