Quakers lose at John Carroll

SHAKER HEIGHTS — Wilmington College dropped a 9-0 decision at John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference match played at Hathaway Brown School Tuesday afternoon.
The Quakers are now 0-2 in the OAC, 0-5 overall. John Carroll moves to 1-0 in conference play, 3-5 for the season.
“We are just rusty; the guys need to hit,” Wilmington head coach Terry Rupert said. “I saw areas of improvement today and areas where we need to continue to improve.”
John Carroll opened play by sweeping the three doubles matches.
In singles play, Justin Arehart (Wilmington) lost to Rico Certo, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 position.
At No. 2 singles, Killian Cummings (Cincinnati/Colerain) lost to Sean Graham, 6-0, 6-2.
Connor LaVelle (Athens) dropped a 6-2, 6-1 match to Peter Scanniello at No. 3 singles.
At the No. 4 position, Charles Hirtzinger (Troy) lost, 6-0, 6-2, to Eric Grimaldi.
Cullen Corcoran (Wilmington/Clinton-Massie) was defeated by Cass Stadnik, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5.
At No. 6, Trenton Hython lost to Paul Olexa, 6-0, 6-0.
“They’re coming along. We have some great weather forecast this week, and we plan on taking advantage of it. Our focus right now is on being ready for our home opener Sunday with Marietta,” Rupert said.
