WESTERVILLE — Wilmington College turned in all-conference performances on the track and in the field as the Quakers wrapped up competition in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship at Otterbein University Saturday.

The Quakers finished eighth overall with 47 points. Ohio Northern won the team title with 152 points.

“We never want to be happy with an eighth-place finish, and we are not, but I am very proud of the effort that the men gave,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “So many athletes on our team had personal bests. Certainly, the effort was there all weekend. The outdoor championship is at WC — I think we can bounce back outdoors with a better finish for the men.”

Mason Metts (Pomeroy/Meigs) followed up on Friday’s All-OAC performance in the weight throw with a third-place finish in the shot put Saturday. The junior’s best effort of 52-10 ¾ earned Metts his second All-OAC honor of the meet.

“Mason Metts really has stepped it up to another level during the indoor season and he had a monster weekend. Two All-OAC performances on the weekend was outstanding,” Combs said.

Alek Erwin (Springfield/Northeastern) ran to All-OAC honors with a 2:35.65 time in the 1,000-meter run that was good for third place.

“Alek’s race in the 1,000 was great. I thought he looked a little tight in the DMR last night on the lead-off leg, but he ran the best race of his career today,” Combs said.

Brad Kline (Circleville) broke his own team mile record, finishing fifth in 4:23.96.

Pat Carroll (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian) was seventh in the 5,000-meter run, but broke his own team record with a time of 15:28.77.

Jake Sydnor (Batavia/Clermont Northeastern) was sixth at 400 meters with a time of 51:35.

Jake Simpkins (Germantown/Valley View) was sixth at 800 meters with a time of 1:59.31. Kline was ninth in 2:00.80.

Tyler Caudill (Jamestown/Greeneview) finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.66.

Steve Balthis (West Alexandria/Twin Valley South) cleared 6-2 ¼ to finish ninth in the high jump.
