Muskies win dual relay

Myles Corcoran teamed with Pat Carroll to finish first overall against Muskingum.

NEW CONCORD —The Wilmington College men’s cross country team was edged by Muskingum, 10-11, in a season-opening dual relay on the Muskies' campus Thursday afternoon.

The event featured two-runner teams with each runner covering three 3,000-meter loops.

Pat Carroll (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian) and Myles Corcoran (Wilmington/Clinton-Massie) finished first overall, hitting the line in 1:00.50.

“They were way down halfway through the second leg, and I told them the pace I wanted them to run. They were real meticulous about it. They just hit the pace and kept closing the gap. They passed three teams to get the win. They are tough, a real good 1-2 punch for our team,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said.

Rob King (Washington Court House/Miami Trace) and Misha McCormick (Cincinnati/Sycamore) finished fourth overall in 1:02.38.

Alek Erwin (South Vienna/Northeastern) and Brad Kline (Circleville) were sixth, finishing in 1:01.16.

“We’re going to need our number 6, 7 and 8 runners to step in and push some of our other runners,” Combs said. “We can’t expect our top 5 to run the perfect race at every meet we go to. We need a bigger margin of error than that. We’re going to need other guys to step in and help us out.”

The Quakers will return to action at the Franklin Invitational Saturday morning.
