FAIRBORN — Wilmington College fell to Division I Wright State University, 20-3, at Nischwitz Stadium Wednesday night.

The Quakers are now 3-8 on the season while the Raiders improve to 9-9.

The Quakers picked up two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Cameron Schwalbach (Circleville) and a Roenick Whitney (Goshen) groundout.

Wilmington’s final run of the game came in the sixth inning when Hunter Justus (Circleville/Logan Elm) walked and scored on a Brett McEvoy (Pickerington/Pickerington North) double.

Jared Ramsey (Fairborn) started and took the loss.

Small things created big problems for the Quakers. Wilmington pitchers walked 10 batters while four Wilmington errors led to eight unearned runs.

“The walks are a concern, but our defense was better than the box score indicates,” Wilmington head coach Tony Haley said. “We saw a lot of good things today. We’ve been moving a lot of guys around, trying to find us a good combination. I think once we get settled in, we are going to be fine. One thing about these guys — they don’t quit. They are playing hard and that hard work will eventually pay some dividends.”

Schwalbach had two of Wilmington’s eight hits. McEvoy, Justus, Brandon Arehart (Wilmington), Bruce Dunlap (Circleville/Logan Elm), Luke Teeters (Waverly) and Austin Newman (Bethel/Bethel-Tate) had a hit apiece.

The Quakers next game is a 9-inning match-up at Earlham March 27.

“We have played some very good competition over the last week, with games against Division II Urbana, a very good Division III Mount St. Joseph team and Division I Wright State,” Haley said. “We look forward to the challenge of playing good teams. We know these experiences will benefit us when the Ohio Athletic Conference season begins.”
