2012-13 Women's Basketball All-OAC

AUSTINTOWN – Two members of the Wilmington College women’s basketball team were honored by Ohio Athletic Conference in a coaches votes, the league announced today (February 27, 2013).

Seniors Brianna Peters (Alexandria, KY/Campbell County) and LeAnn Topp (New Bremen, OH/New Bremen) were named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team. Peters, who was honorable mention last season, earned second-team honors, while Topp picked up honorable mention laurels.

Peters, who is graduating a year early, led the team with 10.3 points and 6.1 rebounds. She led the team in scoring in eight games this season, and was the leading rebounder in seven games.

“Brianna became a real force in the middle for us this year,” said head coach Jerry Scheve. “She was the player opposing defenses knew they had to key on when they played us. She has gotten better each year, and I am very happy for her to receive this well-deserved recognition, in a year in which there were very many worthy candidates.”

Topp was the epitome of the word leader for the Lady Quakers. She led the team with 7.0 rebounds and was third on the team in scoring with 7.6 points. Topp was the team’s leading rebounder in 10 games, five of which she recorded double figures. Despite missing five conference games, she showed enough that the conference coaches felt she was worthy of all-OAC recognition.

“LeAnn has been our emotional leader for four years, and really had a great senior year,” said Scheve. “She suffered an assortment of injuries this year, which kept her at less than full strength for much of the year. When she was at her best, I felt she and our team could play with anyone.”

Wilmington finished 15-12 after playing the country’s toughest schedule. The Massey Ratings rated the WC schedule, one that featured six Top 25 teams, as the top rated schedule in Division III. Those ratings also had the Lady Quakers as the 42nd ranked team.
