Junior Christian Patterson and senior Mason Metts competed at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships.
LACROSSE, WI – For the second straight season, junior Christian Patterson has earned All-American status in track and field.
Patterson (Cincinnati, OH/Norwood) finished third in the high jump during the 2013 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships held at UW-LaCrosse. He was sixth in the event last year.
“Very proud of Mason (Metts) and Christian,” said head coach Ron Combs. “They both did a fantastic job today. Christian was right in the hunt for the National Championship. That’s (an) experience that should benefit him next year, and the two guys in front of him were seniors.”
Patterson cleared the distance of 6-10.25 on his third attempt, and finished third because the jumper in second place cleared the distance on the second attempt.
Senior Mason Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) finished 12th in the hammer. It was his first of two events Metts will be competing in the Nationals. Metts is competing in the shot put Saturday.
On his second throw, Metts set his distance of 187-05. He was fifth after his flight, but fell to 12th.
“Mason competed very well for his first trip to Nationals, and still has the shot put tomorrow,” said Combs.
The shot put is scheduled to start at 5:50 Central time.
