WESTERVILLE — Jenna Parlette shattered the Wilmington College indoor mile record at the Division III All-Ohio Championship, hosted by Otterbein University Saturday.
Wilmington finished 19th in the meet that was won by Mount Union.
Parlette (Miamisburg) covered the mile in 5:22.53 to finish seventh overall and surpass the previous team mark of 5:23.17, set by Brittany Wolf in 2001.
“Jenna was one of the last girls to get into the field. We weren’t sure she was even going to make the cut to run the mile. Obviously, we are happy that she did,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “In typical Jenna fashion, she wasn’t intimidated at all. She was in the slow heat and finished seventh overall. That just shows you what a great competitor she is.”
Liz Delehanty (Euclid/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) finished 12th in the pole vault with a 10-0 ½ effort.
“Liz has looked good all year. I know she was somewhat disappointed with today, but she is a long way ahead of where she was last year,” Combs said.
Tricia Steffen (Baltimore/Liberty Union) ran a lifetime-best 19:23.73 in the 5,000-meter run.
“That was a big PR for her, by 11 or 12 seconds. She did a good job and really competed well,” Combs said.
