AUSTINTOWN — Wilmington College junior Braden McMonigle has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.

McMonigle (Monroe/Lemon-Monroe) won the high jump with a school record-tying 6-8 effort to help the Quakers win the team title at Capital University’s Rev. Mike Hout Invitational.

McMonigle’s jump was an NCAA provisional mark and represents the second-best effort in the nation this season. A 2009 NCAA outdoor All-American and 2010 NCAA outdoor national qualifier, the junior is looking to make his first career appearance in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship.

“Braden had a great fall of training, his best since he’s been at Wilmington,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “He has had some great outdoor seasons, but he really hasn’t put it together for the indoor national meet. I think he is ready to do both this year. This should give him a lot of confidence going into the later championship meets. It’s also important that he is having success jumping at Capital University, which will be the host of the national indoor meet. Hopefully, that will give him an added edge that some of the other guys from around the country won’t have.”
