Quakers still earn OAC Tournament berth

Erin Cane teamed with Michelle Reiber to post a win at No. 2 doubles against John Carroll.
Wilmington College ended the regular season with an 8-1 loss to John Carroll in Ohio Athletic Conference women’s tennis action Saturday afternoon.
The Quakers are 2-7 in the OAC, 3-10 overall. John Carroll moves to 6-2 in the conference, 8-10 for the season.
There turned out to be a silver lining in the clouds for Wilmington. On Sunday, Marietta won at Muskingum, guaranteeing the Quakers the No. 8 seed in the upcoming OAC Tournament.
Saturday's meet started on a promising note as Erin Cane (Springboro) and Michelle Reiber (Jamestown/Greeneview) posted an 8-1 win over Ashley Bauer and Athena Pappis at No. 2 doubles.
Wilmington’s No. 1 team of Jessica VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) and Lisa Brady (Pickerington/Pickerington North) built a 6-1 lead, but Maria Ciccolini and Cassie Simmelink rallied to post a 9-7 win.
With a win at No. 3 doubles, the Blue Streaks took a 2-1 lead into singles action.
Singles play belonged to John Carroll, as the Blue Streaks posted six consecutive wins to account for the 8-1 final.
Holly Grady (Beavercreek/Xenia Christian) lost a hard-fought 5-7, 2-6 match to Allison Mora at the No. 5 position.
The Quakers will face top-seed Ohio Northern in an OAC Tournament quarterfinal 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Ada.
