01/24/10
The winter film series featuring movies depicting Quakers will continue with the showing of Restoration Thursday (Jan. 28), at 7:30 p.m., at the Meriam R. Hare Quaker Heritage Center at Wilmington College.
The Friends in Film series features four motion pictures that include portrayals of Quakers — some are accurate depictions while others perpetuate stereotypes or inaccuracies about the Society of Friends.
The 1995 film Restoration, directed by Michael Hoffman, stars Robert Downey Jr., Meg Ryan and Hugh Grant in the story based on Rose Tremain’s novel in which Downey’s character is an aspiring young physician in service to King Charles II of England.
The QHC gallery features an exhibit associated with the film series theme. Normal gallery hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Subsequent film showings will Feb. 4, Nixon, and Feb. 11, Iron Jawed Angels. The Thursday evening films are free of charge.
