Erwin establishes new indoor mile mark

COLUMBUS – Five members of the Wilmington College men’s track team competed at Ohio State University Friday with positive results.
Junior Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) set a new Wilmington indoor record by running the mile in 4:21.12. Erwin finished sixth in the event. Sophomore Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) established a personal indoor best in the 800, covering the distance in 1:57.98.
Senior Mason Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) finished fifth in the weight throw with a career-long toss of 56'0.5". He added a sixth place finish in the shot put on a season-best toss of 53'3". In just his second meet of the season, junior Christian Patterson (Cincinnati, OH/Norwood) finished fifth in the high jump going over 6'5".
The track team will be competing Saturday (February 16) at the Rick Meidl Invitational.
