BEXLEY — A strong showing by Wilmington’s distance runners helped the Quakers to a sixth-place finish at the Capital Classic Saturday.

The Quakers finished with 57 points. Otterbein won the 12-team event with 135.50 points.

“We’ve had some people who weren’t completely healthy, so it was important to get some confidence for them as we head to the conference meet next weekend,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said.

Annie Cekada (Mineral Point, Pa./Central Cambria) finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:44.41.

“Annie looked a lot more like herself. She’s definitely not 100 percent, but it was a good race for her, a good step toward next week,” Combs said.

Jenna Parlette (Miamisburg) finished third in the mile run and fifth at 800 meters.

Colleen Romeo (Pleasant Plain/Goshen) was third in the 1,000-meter run.

“Colleen had a really good day. Her time in the 1,000 was the fifth-fastest in school history. She also ran a nice leg on our 4x4,” Combs said.

Brittany Gibbons (Pleasant Plain/Blanchester) and Tricia Steffen (Baltimore/Liberty Union) went 2,3 in the 3,000-meter run.

“It was a good weekend. I’m happy with the results and how we are looking as we get ready for the conference meet,” Combs said.
