College Theatre to Present the Play 'Almost, Maine' Feb. 23-25

New York Times: 'Magical Happenings Bloom Beneath the Snowdrifts'

February 16, 2012

Wilmington College Theatre will present John Cariani’s romantic comedy Almost, Maine Feb. 23, 24 and 25, at 7:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.

The New York Times described Almost, Maine as “a whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance — magical happenings bloom beneath the snowdrifts.”

Wynn Alexander is directing the production with Lois Hock handling set and lighting design, and Becky Haines the sound.

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the Northern Lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways.

Knees are bruised. Love is lost, found and confounded. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal and the hearts mend — almost.

The Star-Ledger called Almost, Maine “a charmer where unexpected magic lingers in the air like someone’s breath on a cold winter’s night. John Cariani aims for the heart by way of the funny bone.”

Broadway.com called the play “utterly endearing,” while the New York Daily News described Almost, Maine as “a snowy charmer. These nine tales of love in the time of frostbite have a winning glow that proves surprisingly contagious.”

Reservations can be made by contacting the Theatre Box Office at (937) 382-6661 ext. 267 weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
