OBERLIN — Pat Carroll’s All-Region performance led Wilmington to a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Oberlin College Saturday afternoon.

The Quakers finished with 450 points. National power Calvin College had five of the top 12 runners en route to claiming the title in the 35-team event.

Carroll (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian) covered the 8k course in 25:59 to finish 30th overall and earn All-Region honors.

“Pat didn’t have his best race today, but he still was All-Region and about nine positions away from qualifying for nationals,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “He has been rock-solid all year. He has put so much work into it. I was really hoping he could squeeze out a trip to nationals because nobody deserves it more than he does.”

Brad Kline (Circleville) missed All-Region honors by two positions with his 37th-place finish in 26:09.

“I think Brad had the race of the day,” Combs said. “We were not expecting him to be knocking on the door of All-Region as a sophomore. It was just a great effort.”

Myles Corcoran (Wilmington/Clinton-Massie), who was hampered by illness in the second half of the season, finished 99th in 27:15.

Rob King (Washington Court House/Miami Trace) was 142nd in 27:41.

Jacob Boehm (Blanchester/McNicholas) finished 156th in 27:56.

“I feel good about what this team did today,” Combs said. “We were ahead of Mount Union and Marietta. We really bounced back from a poor showing at the conference meet. I think a lot of that was Pat and Brad carrying us, but everyone did a good job of bouncing back and putting that race behind us.”
