Brandon Arehart and the Quakers were topped by Urbana.
URBANA — Urbana University scored 11 runs in the fourth inning and went on to hand Wilmington College a 16-9 setback in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon.
The Quakers are now 3-6 on the season while Urbana improves to 5-6.
“We just couldn’t get them out,” Wilmington head coach Tony Haley said. “Part of our problem was not challenging hitters. We walked too many people, gave away too many bases.”
Wilmington’s offense, which sputtered during the Quakers’ recent trip to Florida, came alive to the tune of 13 hits.
Brett McEvoy (Pickerington/Pickerington North) ripped two doubles and a single and drove in two runs.
Austin Newman (Bethel/Bethel-Tate) drove in three runs with a homer and a single. Bruce Dunlap (Circleville/Logan Elm) continued to swing a hot bat with a homer, double and a pair of RBI.
“It was good to see our bats come around,” Haley said. “We know that we have guys capable of swinging it, and they were swinging it today.”
Wilmington will host a pair of doubleheaders this weekend with Pitt-Bradford and La Roche coming to Tewksbury-Delaney Field Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Both twin bills begin at 1 p.m.
