A senior athletic training major interning with the Cincinnati Reds received a special scholarship reserved for those working in professional baseball.

The Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society awarded Keegan Martin, a 2012 intern with the Reds, a $1,500 scholarship in recognition of his outstanding work with the team.

The Bethel resident is a 2009 graduate of Bethel-Tate High School and is a member of the College’s Sports Medicine Leadership Council.

He said Reds’ head trainer Paul Lessard encouraged him to apply for the scholarship, which is given to certified athletic trainers or undergraduate students with sports medicine experience in professional baseball. The award is designed to encourage higher education and professional development throughout a trainer’s career.
