Quakers drop season opener to John Carroll

University Heights, OH (December 4, 2002) -- The Wilmington College wrestling team dropped their season opener to nationally ranked John Carroll University by a 41-0 score.

The team fell behind early when they forfeited the 125-pound weight class. The Blue Streaks then recorded a technical fall before dropping the two consecutive major decisions by 11-1 and 11-3 scores. JCU then recorded a fall before recording their third major decision at the 165-pound weight class.

Derek Beamer (Corydon, IN/Corydon) was defeated at the 174-pound weight class by a 4-1 score when he was taken down late in the first period. Cory Norvell (Dayton/Dunbar) was then defeated 4-2 in a very close decision. The Quakers were then defeated 6-4 at the 197 pound weight class before David Uloho (Dayton/Meadowdale) was defeated 5-4 in overtime, when Thad Poweski escaped just five seconds into the 30-second period.

The Quakers (0-1, 0-1 OAC) are next set to face off at the Indiana Little States Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Blue Streaks (2-1, 1-0 OAC) are preparing for the Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament over the weekend.
