High school teams to converge on WC campus
July 3, 2012
Twelve boy’s high school soccer teams from around the state will converge on the Wilmington College campus July 14 to participate in the fourth annual Quaker Cup.
“This is a great opportunity to bring in competitive high school soccer programs, have them experience the outstanding soccer facilities at Wilmington College and also a great time to watch some of the top players in the region,” said Wilmington College men’s soccer coach Bud Lewis.
The 2012 Quaker Cup will feature teams from Wilmington, Jonathan Alder, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, Normandy, Lakota East, Northmont, Hilliard Davidson, West Muskingum, Monroe, Wapakoneta, Madison and Graham high schools.
Admission fee for the day’s events is $1 for adults and school-age children. The event is co-sponsored by the Wilmington Kiwanis Club.
Games will begin at 8 a.m., with action to take place on Charlie Gilhart Field, Williams Stadium and the lower field adjacent to Gilhart Field.
“The Quaker Cup is a relatively new tradition that we are very proud of,” Lewis said. “It has quickly gained a good reputation around the state. We are confident that this year’s event will further that reputation.”
