Quakers put four on All-Region squad

Garman named First Team All-Great Lakes Region

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College Quakers put four on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Great Lakes Region squad. Sophomores Chad Garman (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne), Alex Van der Sluijs (Dayton/Carroll) and Eric Schultz (Cincinnati/Anderson) along with junior Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) were named to the team.

Garman, a midfielder with the squad, earned First Team All-Region honors after scoring a team-leading 13 goals and dishing out seven assists for 33 total points. He was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Midfielder of the Year while helping the team score 53 goals in their 22 games.

Van der Sluijs, a forward for the Quakers, was named the Co-Forward of the Year in the Ohio Athletic Conference and was named Second Team All-Region. He scored 10 goals, good for second on the team while dishing out a team-high 10 assists.

Saylor, a goalkeeper, was named to the All-Region Second Team. He stopped 69 shots on the season, allowing just 14 goals in 20 games on the year for a goals against average of 0.76 to go with seven shutouts and a record of 14-2-1.

Schultz, a defender, was named to the Honorable Mention squad. He helped a defense that allowed just 19 goals in 22 games for a team goals against average of 0.84 and 11 shutouts.

The Quakers ended the 2004 season with a 17-3-2 record on the year, winning the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles while advancing to the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Wartburg (Ia.) 1-0.
