Quakers Advance to OAC Final with win

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College Quakers defeated the Yellow-Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace 1-0 in the first round of the OAC Tournament dropping the Yellow Jackets to 0-5-2 all time against the Green and White.

The Quakers and Yellow Jackets, who met last week in a scoreless tie in the last regular season game, took until the 86th minute of tonight’s game for the first goal to be scored, when Phil Walter (Columbus/Hamilton Twp) took a free kick from David Benedict (Cincinnati/North College Hill) and headed past the Yellow Jacket keeper Nate Christian.

The two teams played a physical game as the two teams combined for 18 fouls and seven yellow cards.

Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) picked up the victory moving him to 12-1-1 on the season. Yellow Jacket keeper Nate Christian picked up the loss dropping his individual record to 14-5-1 on the year.

The Quakers improve to 15-2-2 overall and 8-1-1 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 14-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the OAC.

The Quakers next game is on Saturday, November 6th when they will host John Carroll University for the OAC Championship. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Charlie Gilhart Field.
