WILMINGTON,
Ohio The Wilmington College Quakers defeated the Yellow
Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace College 3-1 to clinch second place
and home field advantage in the first round of the OAC Tournament.
Baldwin-Wallace
took the lead in the 32nd minute when Alex Restaino took a
throw in and beat the Quakers' keeper. The Quakers held the
advantage in both corner kicks and shots in the first half
6-2 and 14-5, respectively.
In the second half, the Quakers' offense, after taking five
shots on goal in the first period, scored three goals. The
first came in the 61st minute when J.T. Pitstick (Fairborn/Carroll)
scored his first goal of the season off a shot from the top
of the box that beat the Yellow Jackets' keeper to the upper
90. Oskar Johansson (Jonkoping, Sweden) scored the go ahead
goal in the 72nd minute off Alex Van der Sluijs's (Dayton/Carroll)
second assist of the season.The
game's and the Quakers' final goal came off the foot of Matt
Hoenie (Cincinnati/McNicholas) who was assisted by Olof Petersson
(Loddekopinge, Sweden).
For
the game the Quakers out-shot the Yellow Jackets 25-15, with
10 of those shots being on goal. The Quakers also held the
advantage in corner kicks 8-4.
Justin
Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) played the first
period stopping two shots. Brandon Bernhardt (Cincinnati/Anderson)
relieved Saylor in the second half also stopping two shots.
Bernhardt also picked up his sixth win of the season.
With
the win the Quakers improve to 12-5-1 overall and 7-1-1 in
the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 14-5-1 overall and
6-2-1 in the OAC.
The
next game for the Green and White is Tuesday, November 1st
when they host the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace College
in the semifinals of the OAC Tournament, with kickoff set
for 7:00pm.
