WILMINGTON, Ohio — The Wilmington College Quakers defeated the Crusaders of Capital University 1-0 on Wednesday evening. The shutout gives the Quakers eight on the season.

The Quakers and Crusaders played a scoreless first period. Capital held a one shot advantage, 8-7, over the Quakers, while the Quakers held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-3.

In the 58th minute, Derek Van der Sluijs (Dayton/Carroll) and Matt Hoenie (Cincinnati/McNicholas) combined to assist Chad Garman (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) on his third goal of the season.

Garman's goal would be the only goal the Quakers would need as the defense held Capital to three shots on goal.Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Quakers stopping five shots. Saylor also picked up his fifth shutout and sixth win of the season.

With the win the Quakers improve to 11-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the OAC, while Capital falls to 12-5-1 overall and 5-3 in the OAC.

The next match for the Green and White is Saturday, October 29th when the team hosts the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace College, with kickoff set for 7:00pm.
