Quaker win streak snapped by Capital 2-1

Team unable to overcome 2-0 deficit in loss

COLUMBUS – The seventh ranked Wilmington College Quakers had their 12-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday evening by the Crusaders of Capital University. Capital scored the first two goals of the game, as the Quakers were unable to recover in the 2-1 loss.

Capital got their first goal of the game with 3:09 left in the first half, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 halftime lead. The 1-0 lead stood until the Crusaders converted on a penalty kick in the game’s 86th minute. Wilmington fought back and cut the deficit to one with 1:11 to play in the game when Phil Walter (Columbus/Hamilton Twp.) scored his eighth goal of the season. The Quakers were unable to get another shot in the game, snapping the winning streak for the team.

Justin Saylor (Cleveland Hts./Cleveland Hts.) picked up the loss for the Quakers, his first of the season, while Capital’s Matt Stiles picked up the win, stopping nine shots in a full 90 minutes of action.

With the loss, the Quakers record falls to 14-2-1 on the season and 7-1 in the OAC while Capital improves to 7-10-2 and 4-4 in league action.

The next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, October 30 when the team travels to Berea, Ohio to face off against the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace College with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
