CONCORD — The
seventh ranked (NSCAA) Quakers of Wilmington College
escaped the Muskingum Muskies
with a 3-2 overtime victory in New Concord.

Freshman Phil Walter (Columbus/Hamilton Twp.) got
the game winning goal in overtime, while assisting
the second goal of the contest.
The two teams played to a scoreless first half before
the Muskies found the back of the net just under
eight minutes into the period. The Quakers' Chad
Garman (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) scored the equalizer
off of an assist from David Benedict (Cincinnati/North
College Hill) just nine minutes later. The Muskies,
for the second time in the game took a one-goal lead,
and the Quakers answered right back with a Markus
Carlsson (Umea, Sweden/Sweden) goal from a Phil Walter
assist, this goal with 5:01 left to play in regulation.
In the overtime period, Walter scored on an unassisted
goal with just 52 seconds to play in the stanza,
giving the Quakers their 11th win in a row.
With the win, the Quakers improve to 13-1-1 on the
season and a perfect 6-0-0 in the OAC while Muskingum
falls to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.
The next game for the Green and White is on Saturday,
October 23 as the team plays host to the Blue Streaks
of John Carroll University starting at 7:00 at Charlie
Gilhart Field.
