Quakers recover from 0-2 deficit to win 3-2

Walter gets goal and assist in victory

ADA — The Wilmington College Quakers picked up a 3-2 victory over conference foe Ohio Northern University on Tuesday evening, despite trailing 2-0 with just under 40 minutes gone in the game before rallying for two goals in the final five minutes of the first half, and the game winner 64 minutes into the contest.

The Polar Bears got back-to-back goals from Adam Gatton, who put in his 12th and 13th goals of the season, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead just 30 minutes into the contest. The Quakers got on the board in the 43rd minute when Ross Garber (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) scored his first goal of the season on an unassisted goal before Phil Walter (Columbus/Hamilton Twp.) put in the equalizer with just over two minutes to play before halftime from an assist by Matt Hoenie (Cincinnati/McNicholas).

Just under 20 minutes into the second half the Quakers scored their go-ahead goal when David Benedict (Cincinnati/North College Hill) beat the Ohio Northern keeper off of a double assist from Walter and Ryan Phillips (West Chester/Fenwick), giving the game its 3-2 final score.

Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) picked up the win for the Quakers, going the whole 90 minutes in the contest while stopping seven shots. Brice McMaster of Northern picked up the loss, stopping eight shots in 90 minutes of action.

With the win, the 13th ranked Quakers improve to 11-1-1 overall and 4-0 in the OAC while Ohio Northern falls to 8-6-1 overall and 2-2 in league action.

The next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, October 16 as the team plays host to the Student Princes of Heidelberg College starting at 7:00 p.m.
