Quakers shut out Mount Union 4-0

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington College Quakers improved their record to 10-1-1 on the season with a 4-0 victory over the Purple Raiders of Mount Union College on Saturday evening at Gilhart Field.

The Quakers got on the scoreboard for the first time with just 23:15 gone in the game when Chad Garman (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) scored his 11th goal of the season off of an Alex Van der Sluijs (Dayton/Carroll) assist. 12 minutes later, Phil Walter (Columbus/Hamilton Twp.) scored the first of his two goals off of an Alex Van der Sluijs assist, his eighth assist of the season, giving the team a 2-0 lead that they took into halftime.

In the second half Markus Carlsson (Umea, Sweden/Umea) scored 16 minutes into the period off of an assist from Garman before Walter scored his second goal of the game with five and a half minutes to play off of a Brian Deal (Sidney/Sidney) assist.

Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) picked up the win for the team, bringing his season record to 8-0-1 while Mike Corum of the visiting Purple Raiders picked up the loss.

With the win, the 13th ranked Quakers improve to 10-1-1 on the year and 3-0-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play while Mount Union falls to 2-8-2 overall and 1-2 in league action.

The next game for the Green and White is on Tuesday, October 12 as the team travels to Ada, Ohio to face off against the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University with kickoff set for 4:00 pm.
