Quakers defeat Marietta College

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Wilmington College Quakers defeated the Pioneers of Marietta College 3-1, on Tuesday evening.

Oskar Johansson (Jonkoping, Sweden) scored the game's first goal when he buried a rebounded shot into the back of the net. Cole Weddle (Cincinnati/Colerain) and Eric Schultz (Cincinnati/Anderson) both got assist on Johansson's goal. The Pioneers then answered back with their only goal of the night by Felix Ntow off of a Josh Mains assist.

The Quakers' David Benedict (Cincinnati/North College Hill) gave Wilmington the lead at the half when he scored off Weddle¹s second assist of the night. The Quakers final goal came in the 50th minute off an unassisted goal by David Benedict giving the Quakers the 3-1 win.

Wilmington held the advantage on shots taking 21, while Marietta only took 12.

Brandon Bernhardt (Cincinnati/Anderson) started in goal for the Quakers stopping four shots and picking up his fourth win of the season. Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) relieved Bernhardt in the second half.

With the win the Quakers improve to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the OAC, while Marietta falls to 5-5 and 0-2 in the OAC.

The Quakers next match is Saturday, October 8th when they travel to Alliance, Ohio to take on the Purple Raiders of Mount Union College, with kickoff set for 1:00 pm.
