Quakers defeat Otterbein College in Conference Opener

WILMINGTON, Ohio ‹ The Wilmington College Quakers opened conference play defeating the Cardinals of Otterbein College 2-1, on Saturday evening.

Brett LeFever scored the game's first goal when he took a Drew Pitzer assist and beat the Quaker keeper to the upper 90. David Benedict (Cincinnati/North College Hill) answered back for the Quakers when he scored his third goal of the season in the 39th minute. The two teams went into the half knotted at one.

In the 54th minute Alex Van der Sluijs scored his first goal of the season off a Phil Walter (Columbus/Hamilton Township) assist giving the Quakers the 2-1 win.

Wilmington and Otterbein combined for 41 shots, 21 and 20 respectively.

Brandon Bernhardt (Cincinnati/Anderson) started in goal for the Quakers stopping six shots, while Justion Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) relieved Bernhardt in the second half stopping five shots and picking up his third win of the season.

With the win the Quakers improve to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while Otterbein falls to 4-5-1 and 0-1 in the OAC.

The Quakers next match is Tuesday, October 4th when they travel to Marietta, Ohio to take on the Pioneers of Marietta College, with kickoff set for 4:00 pm. .
