Quakers blank DuBuque 3-0

David Benedict gets fourth and fifth goal of the Classic

(WC Press Release) Wilmington, OH (September 20, 2003) -- The Wilmington College Quakers came out firing for the second game in a row and defeated the University of DuBuque in the final game of the Wilmington/Kiwanis Classic hosted by WC.

Wilmington forward David Benedict (Cincinnati/North College Hill) was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Tournament while sweeper Jay Glover (Hamilton/Ross) was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Classic.

The Quakers got their first goal from the Williams brothers (Ft. Thomas, KY/Newport Central Catholi) as younger brother Mike set up older brother Ben for a header that beat the opposing keeper, as was the eventual game-winning goal. Mike had his hand in the team's next goal as well as he set up teammate Benedict for another header that he put into the back of the net. The team's third goal of the game came from the foot of Benedict who put a pass from Ben Williams into the net, giving the game its 3-0 score.

With the win the Quakers even their record to 4-4-1 on the year.

The next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, September 24 when the team travels to Springfield, Ohio to face off against the Tigers of Wittenberg University with kickoff set for 4:00 p .m.
