David Benedict
has hat trick in game
(WC Press Release)
Wilmington, OH (September 19, 2003) -- David Benedict (Cincinnati/North
College Hill) scored a hat trick as the Quakers of Wilmington College
defeated Blackburn College 7-2 in the second game of the Wilmington/Kiwanis
Classic.
The Quakers
scored a pair of first half goals in the game, both by Benedict,
and both with under 12 minutes gone in the period. The rest of the
half was scoreless as the Green and White went into the locker room
with a 2-0 advantage.
In the second
half the team got their third and deciding goal of the game when
Mike Williams (Ft. Thomas, KY/Newport Central Catholic) found Ben
Hawkins (Springfield/North) in front of the score. Benedict then
completed his hat trick four minutes later giving the hosts the
four-goal advantage. Blackburn fought back with a pair of goals
with 11:45 and 7:55 left in the game, but it was too little too
late as the Quakers tacked on three more goals in the game's final
seven minutes with Mark Kinsel (Canal Winchester/Canal Winchester),
Aaron Hunter (Middletown/Middletown) and Dale Hodapp (Cincinnati/Roger
Bacon) each finding the back of the net in the win.
With the win
the Quakers improve to 3-4-1 on the year while Blackburn falls to
2-2-1.
In the first
game of the Classic, Transylvania defeated DuBuque 2-0.
The next game
for the Green and White is on Saturday, September 20 when the team
plays in the final game of the Kiwanis Classic.
