(WC Press Release) WILMINGTON, OH (September 18, 2004) – “It was a good result for us tonight,” said Bud Lewis as his team slides past Kalamazoo College in a hard fought 3-2 victory.

David Benedict (Cinicinnati/North College Hill) ended a scoreless slump as he scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Chad Garmam (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne). A mere three minutes later Garman took a penalty kick, which found the back of the goal giving the Quakers and early 2-0 lead. Kalamazoo came back, though, as Peter White sent a free kick across the field to JJ Jansons who headed the ball past Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) for their first goal of the game, and the last points of the period.

The Quakers opened up the second period shooting as they scored 55 seconds into the period when Garman capped his night with an assist that found Alex Van der Sluijs (Dayton/Carroll) for what would turn out to be the game winning goal. Kalamazoo brought the score back to within one as Scott MacDonald scored off a rebounded Joe Hess shot. Kalamazoo went cold the rest of the way, giving the Quakers the 3-2 victory.

The Quakers out shot Kalamazoo in both periods, 11-4 first period, and 8-4 in the second, giving them an 18-9 edge for the game.

With the win Saylor moves to 3-0-1 for the season.

With the win the Quakers improve to 4-1-1 on the season while Kalamazoo falls to 2-2

The Quakers next game is September 19 as they will finish the Kiwanis Classic hosting Wittenberg University. Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm.
