WILMINGTON, OH (September 14, 2004) – In a 3-1 victory tonight the
Quakers gave the number six national ranked Battling Bishops of Ohio
Wesleyan University their first loss of the season.
The Quakers scored early
and often as there first two goals came a mere minute apart. Mark
Kinsel (Canal Winchester/Canal Winchester) scored his first goal of
the season as he took a pass from Cole Weddle (Cincinnati/Colerain)
to the far post beating the Ohio Wesleyan keeper. One minute later
Chad Garman (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) headed in his fourth goal of
the season off a cross on a free kick from Alex Van der Sluijs
(Dayton/Carroll). Van der Sluijs assisted Greg Staten (Mason/Mason)
on a cross to the middle that Staten sliced passed Yaggi to cap the
Quaker scoring, giving them a 3-0 advantage that they would hold
going into halftime.
The Bishops came out
attacking in the second half as they out-shot Wilmington 10-4 in the
stanza. The Quaker defense, headed by keeper Justin Saylor
(Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights), who had five saves for the
game, held tight. It took until the 80th minute of the
game for Craig Neal to take a rebounded shot that bounced off the
post to beat Saylor.
"They are the most
winning program in the country among all divisions in soccer,"
said Bud Lewis. "We really battled them well. On our first
chance at the goal, and we made good and scored."

Quaker is Friday September 17th as the host the Kiwanis
Classic. The Quakers play Kalamazoo, kickoff is set for 8:00 pm.
They then come back on Saturday September 18th to play
