Garman and Walters score first goal of season

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Wilmington College Quakers fell to the 5th national ranked Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University 3-2, on Tuesday evening.

Ohio Wesleyan struck first when in the 36th minute Kevin Lehman dribbled past the Quaker defense into the box where he banked a shot off the right post that would find the back of the net. The Quakers answered back when Phil Walter (Columbus/Hamilton Township) picked up the trash from a David Benedict (Cincinnati/North College Hill) corner kick scoring his first goal of the season.

The Battling Bishops Damon Wilson would scored the games next two goals, taking a 3-1 lead. In the 88th minute Chad Garman (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) took a crossing pass from Walters and beat the Ohio Wesleyan keeper.

Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) started the game in goal for the Quakers stopping three shots while giving up three goals. Brandon Bernhardt (Cincinnati/Anderson) relived Saylor for the last 17 minutes also stopping three shots. Saylor falls to 2-3 on the season.

With the loss the Quakers fall to 2-3, while Ohio Wesleyan improves to 6-0.

The Quakers next game is this weekend when the host the Wilmington Kiwanis Classic at Gilhart Field. The Green and White open the classic Friday against Transylvania University, with kickoff set for 8:00 pm. On Saturday the Quakers play Hope College at 8:00 pm, closing out the Kiwanis Classic.
