(WC Press Release) WILMINGTON, OH (September 11, 2004) -- "Deja vu," said Bud Lewis as Denison defeats Wilmington by a single goal for the third straight year.

It took only six minutes into the game for someone to score, as Matt Schuh of Denison took a breakaway and beat the Quaker keeper for the goal. The Quakers ended that chance of a Denison shutout when Greg Staten (Mason/Mason) took a Cole Weddle (Cincinnati/Colerain) pass and beat the keeper for his first goal of the season.

Alex Van der Sluijs (Dayton/Carroll) gave the Quakers their first lead of the game at 2-1 as he scored on a breakaway to the down right flank in the second half. Denison answered back tying the game when Brad Frye scored off of an assist by Matt Fuller. The Big Red scored the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute when Steve Cole scored on a breakaway, giving the game its 3-2 score.

Wilmington had a slight advantage in shots as they out shot Denison in both periods and for the game 22-14. Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) and Brandon Bernhardt (Cincinnati/Anderson) split time in the net, with Bernhardt taking the loss as he gave up the last two Big Red goals.

"We have had wonderful crowds, they have just been wonderful and very supportive of us and you just can’t beat that," said Lewis. "The emotion of the game was great. I think it was a great environment. We had two great teams that battled each other."

The Quakers next play Tuesday September 14th as they play host to Ohio Wesleyan. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. With the loss the Quakers fall to 2-1-1 on the year and Denison moves to 2-2 for the year.
