Quakers defeat Ohio Wesleyan

David Benedict scores his third goal of the season

DELAWARE, Ohio (September 10, 2003) -- The Wilmington College Quaker men's soccer team defeated rival and Division III powerhouse, and 11th ranked Ohio Wesleyan University 1-0 in action on Tuesday evening.

The Quakers got the game's lone goal just five minutes into the second period when sophomore David Benedict (Cincinnati/North College Hill) beat the Wesleyan goalkeeper, giving the Quakers the lead that they would not give up for the rest of the game.

Justin Saylor (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights) was in the goal for the team's first shutout of the season, stopping four shots in the contest.

The win evens the Quaker's record to 2-2 on the season while Ohio Wesleyan recorded their first loss of the season and now fall to 3-1-1.

The next game for the Green and White is on Friday, September 12 when the team travels north to take part in the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament hosted by Calvin (Mi.) College, where they will face Calvin at 4:00 on Friday and then take on Hope at 2:00 on Saturday.
