Quakers fall in second straight shutout

Green and White out-shot Wittenberg 15-14 in the game

WILMINGTON, Ohio ‹ The Wilmington College Quakers lost to the Tigers of Wittenberg University in a 1-0 final, their second straight time being shutout in the young season.

The game was scoreless until the 51st minute when Matt Borland of Wittenberg took a throw in and headed the ball past the Quakers goalkeeper, senior Justin Saylor (C

leveland Heights/Cleveland Heights). It would ultimately be the winning goal for the Tigers. The Quakers out-shot the Tigers in both shots and shots on goal, 15-14 and 9-8, respectively. The Green and White also head the advantage in corner kicks 6-0.

Junior Alex Van der Sluijs (Dayton/Carroll) and freshmen Oskar Johansson (Jonkoping, Sweden) each lead the way for the Green and white three shots each. Senior Ryan Phillips (West Chester/Fenwick) and junior J.R. Barnhart (Worthington/Worthington Kilbourne) each chipped in two shots, five other Quakers had three shots each.

Saylor saved seven shots in the loss, while falling to 1-2 on the season.

The Green and White, with the loss, fall to 1-2, while Wittenberg improves to 1-1-1 overall.

The Quakers next game is Saturday, September 10th when the travel north to Granville, Ohio, to take on the Big Red of Denison University, with kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
